The pandemic has highlighted how important telecom networks are to society. Nokia’s Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise.

The Nokia Nuremberg R&D team is developing next generation optical transport systems for metro as well as core networks. You will be part of the System Verification organization responsible for quality assurance of transport products developed by the Optical Networks R&D teams.

To support the related activities a mixed PC, workstation and server environment and applications with special focus on a VMware based simulation and the related Linux server infrastructure is maintained by a dedicated R&D IT team.

Goal of the IT tasks is to provide the whole R&D organization and the System Verification team in particular with best of class infrastructure and tools for verifying the systems under test on target and in simulation.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

In a heterogeneous R&D environment it is important to react efficiently, flexibly and innovatively to the most diverse requirements coming from cross-location projects and our test community.

In this environment you will closely work together with the complete System Verification team and IT responsibles of other organizations for the administration, maintenance and enhancement of the mainly Linux based local client and server landscape, the network infrastructure, and the interfaces to our laboratories and towards global Nokia IT. Your Windows Knowhow helps you in tasks in our office environment as well as for the laboratory. You will contribute to increasing virtualization and automation of services as well as addressing security aspects. Due to close teamwork with experts in this widespread environment there are many opportunities to grow your knowledge, gain experience, and develop.

Key Skills And Experience

For this position you should bring knowledge from your university education and 2 – 3 years practical experience.

You have:

  • Experience in IT administration of infrastructure and platform
  • Very good Linux knowledge (Red Hat Enterprise Linux compatible, e.g. Rocky Linux)
  • Basic Windows knowledge
  • Very good knowledge of virtualization solutions, preferably VMWare and Proxmox
  • Knowledge and experience with automation (Ansible)
  • Very good knowledge of networking technologies (Ethernet, IP, TCP/UDP, DNS, DHCP, NIS, ...) and related switching and routing equipment, preferably from Nokia (e.g. 7220 IXR)
  • Good and proven skills in at least one relevant scripting language
  • Fluency in English
