The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e. V. develops efficient analytical methods for health research. Thus, it contributes to the improvement of the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of diseases like cardiovascular diseases or cancer. Overall, the institute strives to advance precision medicine by combining knowledge from different fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, medicine, pharmacology, and physics. At our location in Dortmund, we invite applications for a

PhD Candidate (m/f/d): Preclinical Metabolomics

You will be responsible for

• Researching oxidative stress within lymph nodes caused by metastatic melanoma
• Biochemical and histopathological characterization of tumor cells in tissues using chemical and fluorescence staining
• Handling in vivo and in vitro models to test research hypothesis and refine study designs
• Studying lipid alterations of tumorous material by mass spectrometry imaging
• Quantification of corresponding lipids using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry
• Data analysis of sequencing and microscopy data
• Data analysis of mass spectrometry data
  
  

Your profile

• Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related subjects
• Good understanding of tools such cell cultures, histopathology, microscopy, and/or chromatography
• Hands-on experience with mass spectrometers is a plus
• Excellent English communication and writing skills
• Basic understanding of cancer biology is preferable
